The Natchitoches, Louisiana area has been on the map since 1714 and offers many historic attractions to see. However, ask any local and they will tell you the reason to come to Natchitoches is for the annual Christmas Festival of Lights. The Festival of Lights and Christmas Festival in Natchitoches was started in 1927, making it one of the oldest Light Festivals in the US. It is part of the Holiday Trail of Lights that six cities in Texas, Louisiana, and Arkansas put on each year. The Festival of Lights begins two days before Thanksgiving and lasts into the New Year. The main festival is the first weekend in December where the festival peaks. Mini-festivals are held every weekend in December with a Holiday Tour of Homes, entertainment and fireworks every Saturday and at midnight on New Year's Eve.
